Segregation

Segregation legally started around 1896, This was after slaves were free. Segregation was the way they were separated; in these areas the white people would have clean new areas while the black people had worse conditioned areas.

Black people didn't like this segregation so they rebelled, I will be naming two icons who led to the end of segregation.

Rosa Parks

The first Icon is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was born on February 4th, 1913. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks sat in the white section of a public bus with 3 other black people. These 4 black people including rosa were asked to move to the black section of the bus. Rosa refused to, so she was arrested because she wouldn't move her seat for a white man. In doing this Rosa started the Montgomery Bus Boycott, this led to the Supreme court ruling segregated seating on a bus unconstitutional.

Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King Jr. a huge activist against segregation was born on January 15, 1929. He led the civil rights movement in the United States. these movements were the Montogomery bus boycott, the Washington march, and the Selma march. Martin Luther King is mostly known for his I Have a Dream speech. He gave this speech during the March in Washington DC for Jobs and Freedom. Martin Luther King Jr was a major role to the end of segregation.

End of Segregation

Segregation ended in 1964; this was because of the Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act made segregation illegal in businesses and public places, this law was passed in the Senate. It was signed into law in July 1964 making the end to an unjust time.
